1.2M GPD RO/EDI Water Treatment for Milk Production

A leading milk producer in Peru was facing difficult challenges with the water needed for their production processes.  Located in a volcanic zone,  the plant's water contains arsenic, making it non-potable and unsuitable for use in food production.  The plant had been buying potable water for use in their production, adding significant costs to their operation.   With these challenges in mind, AMI worked with the company to engineer a solution:   Dual RO/EDI systems complete with pretreatment designed to produce 1.2 million gallons of <15MΩ resistivity water per day at 75% recovery.

Now in operation for 5 years, the water treatment systems have been supplying the plant with water for use in milk production and the facility’s operation including cauldrons and cooling towers.   The plant’s milk production capacity has increased drastically, while simultaneously reducing the production costs by eliminating the need to buy water.   The company has also experienced significant cost savings and less down-time due to reduced frequency of cauldron purges, less cleaning of the cooling towers, and extended lifetime of the processing equipment.
